Treetops' blues have been part of the Northwest scene for a couple of decades and Victory got to see him at open mics and concerts many moons ago. He continues working easy loose fitting, joyful downhome acoustic and electric blues. He mixes a bit of country delta along with the early Chicago style. Delta happens in the short opener "Tree's Leavin' Blues" while a more relaxed walking band style happens on "Silly Me." The jug band, interesting arrangement with the violin of Jon Parry on "Old Devil" really works. He takes Tommy Johnson's 'Maggie Campbell" in traditional style, and I enjoyed the lazy walk and joy of "Logger's Lovesong" that reminds me of the old McKinstry & Dumovich days. He spoofs himself on the talking blues "Tall Man's Lament." He is 6 foot 6 inches and works it too the hilt. Treetops delivers a wonderful, slow, plaintive slide guitar on the traditional 'Motherless Children." Relaxed fun set of traditional and original blues with solid national guitar licks and fun vocals by a veteran in the blues and folk field. No lyric sheet and limited liner notes. (Chris Lunn)
